Getting to Know "Doc"
Dr. Everett Mobley was born and grew up in Kennett. Horses were his father's only hobby and horses sparked his first interest in veterinary medicine. After five years of college, his high school sweet-heart, Libby, married him while he still had two years of veterinary school left. She taught high school social studies in Columbia until graduation in 1978. They moved to Pocahontas, Arkansas, and went to work for Dr. Dwight O. Creach, in the picturesque foothills of the Ozarks.
In 1979, the Mobleys returned home to Kennett and began operating Kennett Veterinary Clinic in the old building put up by Dr.Bill Baker in 1948. Roberta Baker worked with them and they benefited greatly from her thirty years of experience as a veterinarian's wife. 1984 saw the construction of the present hospital and the birth of their daughter Blair. Their son Tom was born in 1986.
The whole family has been active in Scouting. Son Tom is a Life Scout, and daughter Blair achieved her Gold Award in Girl Scouting. Libby has been a troop leader, service unit manager, day-camp worker, served as the final President of the Cotton Boll Girl Scout Council, and has been awarded the "Thanks" and "Thanks II" Badges, Girl Scouting's highest award for volunteers. She recently completed several years' service on the Board Development Committee for Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland, and remains active in the organization. She works with the Kennett United Way Campaign, Chamber of Commerce,Friends of Music,and the Fall Into Arts Festival
Dr. Mobley has served as Scoutmaster, receiving the Scouter's Training Award, Scoutmaster's Award of Merit, Scoutmaster's Key, Wood Badge, the District Award of Merit, Cherokee District "Leaving a Legacy Award" and the Silver Beaver award. He has served on five Wood Badge staffs, and completed a three year term as District Commissioner in 2006. He presently serves as charter organization representative for Troop 272, Unit Commissioner in Cherokee District , Basic Leader Training Staff, and Challenge Course Staff for the Greater St.Louis Area Council.
Dr. Mobley is a member and past president of the Southeast Missouri Veterinary Medical association, has served three 3-year terms on the executive board of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the chairman of the board of the Senath State Bank, and an elder in the First Presbyterian Church. He enjoys singing in church choir, Kennett Schola Cantorum and for twenty years played bass while singing in the Sons of the Western Bootheel. Since 1988, he has been master of ceremonies for the Kennett Municipal Band, where he plays the euphonium. In June of 2007, he began serving as a CASA volunteer. He has been a Kiwanis member since 1979, is a past president, and has served on several club committees. If the weather is nice, you might find him cruising the back roads on his motorcycle.
